Personal Trips (3 of 3)
August 5, 2020
While we’re still in the ‘no travel’ era, I’m catching up on some previous notable trips that Erin and I have been on in the past few years.
An easy favorite was our trip to Italy in 2018 to visit good friends of ours. They live in Vicenza, Italy, and on that visit we also got to see Venice, Verona, Florence, Pisa, and the Cinque Terre in Italy, as well as Salzburg and Hallstatt in Austria.
The photo above of the Duomo was taken from the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. Here are three more from there:
Florence is one of the most historical and beautiful cities in the world, and wow, was it packed. The line to get into the Duomo was too long, so we skipped that, but my friend and I climbed the steps in Giotto’s Bell Tower right next to it, and had a workout doing it.
Here’s Erin and I on the next day at the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa!
Venice was definitely worth the visit, but the best time to be there was before the crowds started to arrive in force around 11 am. Erin and I did get a gondola ride, and as we did it early, we had it to ourselves. Erin sang ‘Ave Maria’ in the canals, and several people leaned out of their windows to listen.
We went to Salzburg mainly so Erin could visit the various Mozart museums, and then went to the postcard perfect town of Hallstatt.
Of course, most of my photos were in 3D. Here are a few. The last, an example of hyperstereo, is particularly cool if you have a viewer for it:
