About Jim

I’m Jim Herndon, and I’ve been a professional photographer working in a full-time capacity for over two decades. A lot about me can be read in my Journal entries, but here is a short bio:

I started On Location Portraiture in 2000, after working for four years as an assistant to several local photographers from multiple areas of photographic expertise. My business started with a studio front in Garland from 2000 to 2007, and then I was based in Deep Ellum at the Hickory Street Annex from 2007 to 2010. I have worked purely ‘on location’ since 2010, traveling all over DFW and the country.

I have earned the ‘Master of Photography’ status from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), a process involving earning multiple high scores in photographic competition, and have been a member of the PPA since 2000. In 2008, I was the President of the Dallas PPA, and I have served on the board of that organization for six years.

I’ve been married to my beautiful and intelligent wife, Erin, an actress and musician who also won on Jeopardy!, for over 25 years.

A hobby of mine is to photograph our vacations and other trips to different locales in 3D. The images are like Viewmaster photos, except they’re larger and hold more detail. Some of that work can also be found in the Journal section of this website.

In recent years, I’ve added architectural photography for construction companies, architects, and real estate agents to my portraiture, wedding photography, event coverage, and promotional imagery. I’ve also traveled extensively recently for convention photography.
